Dear Supporters of Miranda and the Rockey Family:
This has been a relatively routine week in Miranda’s physical health, and it’s certainly not a bad thing to have no medical emergencies to report! At the same time, it has been an emotionally difficult week in Miranda’s rehabilitation process as stalls in growth and the long, slow days of building strength and re-gaining skills sometimes erupt in frustration and despondence.
Miranda has been regularly expressing a desire to be home, and working towards that longing can feel like a daunting task for all involved. Please continue to pray for Miranda, Joel, Olivia, Nolan, and the entire support team as they labor in Miranda’s rehabilitation, particularly regarding the following:
- Stability in Miranda’s health: following the surgery for her bowel obstruction, Miranda has been released to return to her previously outlined diet, but she sometimes struggles to engage in eating and seems to want only a limited selection of food. Her weight is down, and the care team also wonders if the lack of food contributes to emotional dis-regulation and a lack of energy. Please pray for her body to be nourished to support her healing and to gain strength!
- Persistence in building skills: Miranda communicates a desire to participate in therapies and may even insist that she has cooperated after therapy sessions. However, this week her speech therapist recommended pausing speech therapy due to her lack of engagement, and Miranda has frequently not been taking part in physical therapy sessions. Please pray for discernment and fortitude for all involved as they continue to navigate meeting Miranda’s physiological needs.
- Success in obtaining Medicaid: supporting Miranda long-term following a traumatic brain injury requires intensive, ongoing services. Access to Medicaid is the best option for ensuring this is possible. Please pray for a smooth application process and Medicaid approval.
The Rockey family and Miranda’s entire support team are incredibly grateful for your ongoing encouragement, prayers, and acts of kindness. As always, thank you for your interest and care!
Miranda Strong!
