Greetings, Supporters of Miranda and the Rockey Family,
The past couple of weeks have been quite eventful, so we have many things to report!
First, Miranda successfully completed a short stay at the acute rehab facility, where she was able to participate in some intentional therapies in an incredibly supportive environment. Thank you for your prayers for a smooth transition! Many friends who visited reported on Miranda’s positive outlook and engagement, as well as her ability to work through some frustrations and resistance. She has now returned to the longer-term rehab facility nearer to the Rockeys’ home. As Miranda and the team continue to build success with doing vehicle transfers, Miranda could have ongoing access to these therapies. So, please continue to pray for smooth transfers, wisdom, and fortitude for all involved.
We are also excited to report that Miranda’s application for Medicaid was approved! This opens the door for support like in-home care services, although Miranda’s specific needs and a long wait-list create some uncertainty about the logistics and timeline of how all of that will fall into place. Nevertheless, we are thankful that Medicaid approval will be meaningful for Miranda and the Rockeys.
Finally, we are grateful for the good turn-out (and fun!) at the COTA Fundraiser in honor of Miranda, which took place at Vino Vila in Greenwood on Aug. 18. Good Lord, Rose (Joel’s band) played an incredible set, and Miranda was able to attend and enjoyed the music. We are looking forward to another COTA fundraiser in honor of Miranda at Chipotle on Sept. 7 from 5-9 p.m. (You can find information here.)
We celebrate these victories even in the midst of challenges, grief, and occasional impulses toward hopelessness. Thank YOU for your continued prayers, encouragement, financial gifts to COTA for Miranda Strong, and solidarity.
Miranda Strong!
