4/2/2024 – Day-By-Day

Just wanted to send out a couple quick updates. Miranda seems to have had some good times and some more difficult times, lately. There have been many reports of great visits by friends. Miranda has demonstrated times where her memory was more succinct, as she could remember from visitor-to-visitor who was there and events that occurred! She has been so grateful for all those who have come to see her, both the regulars and the unexpected visitors for whom she hasn’t seen in a while. Visitors always brighten Miranda’s day and help relieve some of the strain of being alone. Mornings tend to be a little more difficult for Miranda, as waking up, becoming oriented with where she is and what all needs to occur can be a bit daunting at times. In turn, we thank all of you who have been able to help support Miranda (and Joel) during those more challenging times.

A huge praise, this weekend, was that the organization SAWS came in strong for the Rockey family! On Saturday, a team of people came and built a beautiful, sturdy ramp for the Rockey’s home. This was a huge blessing which will hopefully equate to the ability to bring Miranda home, at some point, and allow the comforts of home/family to provide even more healing. We thank the organization, and ALL those who helped make that connection in providing such a great blessing to the family!

As mentioned in the previous post, Miranda’s case is very complex. This results in multiple appointments and desperately seeking answers, advice, and support. This is A LOT, especially for the family. We thank you for your continued prayers for the family, as they are attempting to navigate this unknown world with, many times, more “no’s” and unknowns than answers. Please continue to pray for doors to open that provide guidance and hope. Joel has a number of appointments this week, seeking support for therapy/medical needs. Please pray for those appointments, and the processing needed for facing each of them. As we walk this road more, we will share how others can be involved in helping.

In the meantime, we are working to create additional therapy type activities that friends / family can do with Miranda while with her. Even if not “professional,” all the stimulation we can provide continues to support her recovery process. If any of you are in the world of physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech therapy and have ideas for us, please reach out! Additionally, if anyone has the ability to be a regular visitor for Miranda, please be sure to sign up on this calendar. We still have a number of time slots that we’d love to have filled, especially on Mondays where we currently don’t have anyone committed.

Thanks again, for all your love for the Rockeys!!! Please enjoy the pictures attached.

Descriptions of pics:

1. Miranda was intentionally creating a cheesy smile while working on the bike.

2. Joel and Miranda had just exchanged some Christmas gifts. Since Miranda was in the hospital over Christmas, their gifts for each other have been exchanged periodically throughout the last month.

3. Miranda working on standing with her physical therapist.

4. The amazing crew from SAWS, who put in the ramp last weekend!
