Moriah was diagnosed with a rare liver disease called Biliary Atresia at 3 months of age. She had her Kasai surgery just days after we got the diagnosis. Within two months of the surgery, it was evident that it wasn’t successful because her bilirubin and other liver labs continued to rise and worsen.
By this time, we knew that the only other option for Moriah to live a healthy life would be for her to get a liver transplant.
When she was 7.5 months old, we began transplant evaluations to see if she should be listed for a liver transplant. We found out a couple weeks after her evaluations that her liver team decided she should be listed and was officially listed for a liver transplant on April 7, 2022.
We have partnered with COTA for assistance with transplant-related expenses because her insurance does not cover lodging, transportation, or meals. We will most likely need to be staying in the hospital (4 hours from where we live) for around a month post-transplant.
Because we have three other amazing children, we will need to pay for lodging for them in St Louis, as we do not want to be away from them for a month.
It would be a tremendous help and incredible blessing if you would consider partnering with us by donating to COTA in honor of Moriah and praying for our family during this time of need.
The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) helps children and young adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. COTA is the nation’s only fundraising organization solely dedicated to raising life-saving dollars in honor of transplant-needy children and young adults. 100% of each contribution made to COTA in honor of our patients helps meet transplant-related expenses. COTA’s services are free to our families, and gifts to COTA are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
