The Miracle of Heart Pumps

Heart Pumps rock. Period. We do NOT talk about the painful post surgery stuff but man I genuinely loved that heart pump and my short time in the adult section. You never realize how bad things are until things are better. Being able to breathe normally with no issues felt almost abnormal to me as I got used to my heart acting like I pounded five redbulls in one sitting. I felt like I was the cool guy when I asked my nurses to go on walks instead of them forcing me. Plus THE FOOD. Now I am no critic, but the food in the adult section is SO MUCH BETTER than the children unit. Combine that with a big tv in my room and I was a happy camper. Whenever my family goes on a trip, we end up watching the food network on the hotel tv. So I literally only watched the food network the entire week I was there. Food truck wars in particular was something I had never seen before but that was really cool seeing something outside the kitchen and normal format. Also if I see another Guy Fieri show I will pull my hair out : )

Like the nerd I am, I wanted to put my pc in my hospital room to help pass the time and oh boy! By some miracle I was able to run valorant on hospital wifi and play games with my friends. I can also flex. I got an ace in the hospital (it’s a valorant thing). The best part of having a pc was that I was able to play and talk to my friends. I suck at texting and calling! Being able to call them and play games with them was a breath of fresh air. Funny side bit was that my hands were basically tied up with bandages and IVs so I had the weirdest keybind known to humankind. Also I would walk in games like a snail because I could not actually fully press all the W-A-S-D keys.  It really made the annoying two week wait beforehand all worth it. Funny enough I only had such a luxury for a week however because, and very fortunately, I got a heart in less than a week in the adult unit!

I knew I was going to get a heart the day they came in and finally told me my ranking for a heart. While this is nothing to brag about, I was kinda number one. If this was a game I could go pro but I’ll take being able to live instead ig. That entire day I was on edge because I could just feel it. However, I did not want to get my hopes up because I had only been waiting for a week, there’s no way I am that lucky. But by some miracle my doctor told me they had a heart for me and I was to wait until it would come from Utah for the surgery (Side note but while I do not know the family who donated it, I hope one day I can thank them deeply for such an amazing gift they have given me; life). I really did not understand or comprehend how I got a heart so quickly so I stood there just stunned. I was prepared to be here as long as November and beyond, not a week after being put on the list. If I was lucky enough I might actually be able to attend college at UCR, a dream I didn’t even think was on the table at that point. While it had only been a week and roughly three weeks since I was diagnosed with systolic cardiomyopathy, I was already getting my heart transplant! My dear audience that concludes this blog! Talk to ya soon dear friends; till next time!
