Our Story

Up until September of 2021, RJ was a relatively healthy kid who loved to play outside and was preparing to perform in his second school musical. On September 20th, that all changed. After being admitted to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, RJ was found to have T-cell mediated immune disregulation and Indeterminate Pediatric Acute Liver Failure. After about a month at the hospital, His medical team released him on an immunosuppressant regiment that was effective until February 2022. When his platelets started to fall. It was March 2022 that RJ was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia and that he needed a Bone Marrow transplant. We are beyond blessed that a donor was found and the procedure has been performed successfully, But due to the nature of the procedure RJ will require medical intervention throughout his life. Which is why every dollar raised for COTA counts! COTA will assist RJ with transplant-related expenses for his lifetime. Every dollar raised goes to transplant-related expenses.

RJ is now 9years old and doing ok but still can’t go to school and out only to doctors appointments.  He is Home school  we are hoping he can go next school year for the 5th grade. He is missing playing baseball ?? and his friends.
