Our Story

Rowan the Warrior

Meet Rowan!  She is 1 year old with Tricuspid Atresia and Dilated Cardiomyopathy due to Alstrom Syndrome.

“On January 7, 2022 our sweet, strong girl arrived. We knew before she was born that she had tricuspid atresia. She did so well after birth that she was able to come home with us at 3 days old. She continued to do well until right before she turned 2 months old. Her echo showed decreased function of her left ventricle, the only side of her heart that had formed correctly. Her doctors were at a loss as to what was causing this dysfunction so genetic testing was performed. A few days past 2 months old we found out that Rowan has a rare genetic condition called Alstrom Syndrome. We were able to bring her home from the hospital for an amazing month before her heart began to decline again. She was admitted back to the hospital in mid April and began her wait for transplant. We can’t wait to have her home again!

Rowan always has a smile on her face! She brings so much joy and happiness to everyone who meets her. The fact that she has been through so much yet always smiling has changed the way we look at life.

UPDATE MARCH 2, 2023

On February 25, 2023 Rowan received her gifted heart. She had waited for 311 days while in the hospital. She has had a beautiful and fast recovery! She is anticipated to be able to head home on March 6th. Because of her long hospital stay and all the new medicine she will need to take at home Brittney will not be working for a bit. Every dollar helps and we would be grateful for any donations.

The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) helps children and young adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. COTA is the nation’s only fundraising organization solely dedicated to raising life-saving dollars in honor of transplant-needy children and young adults. 100% of each contribution made to COTA in honor of our patients helps meet transplant-related expenses. COTA’s services are free to our families, and gifts to COTA are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
