Our Story

Sarah received a life-saving double lung transplant on July 23, 2019. Her new set of lungs allowed her to breathe freely for the first time in her life, allowing her to travel, train for a triathlon and experience life with a heightened sense of gratitude and beauty. Sarah participated in mentoring others going through the transplant process as a way to stay connected to the transplant community. Although her plans had to be postponed due to COVID, she also started to put together a not-for-profit which would help make long hospital stays for patients a little more comfortable by providing things to make patients’ hospital rooms more home-like.

Unfortunately, Sarah’s new lungs have gone into rejection with other medical complications. Sarah and her medical team have exhausted treatments in hopes to reverse the rejection. Sarah will need another double lung transplant to continue her fight against cystic fibrosis.

Sarah continues to go through rigorous treatments to fight other complications that have come up and continues to stay optimistic and as physically strong as possible to go through the transplant process again.

There are significant financial bills that are not covered by her health insurance during this journey, therefore she has partnered with COTA for assistance with transplant-related expenses. Any donations to COTA in Sarah’s honor are greatly appreciated.

Sarah is looking forward to the day where she can breathe freely again and return to contributing to the transplant community.

The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) helps children and young adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. COTA is the nation’s only fundraising organization solely dedicated to raising life-saving dollars in honor of transplant-needy children and young adults. 100% of each contribution made to COTA in honor of our patients helps meet transplant-related expenses. COTA’s services are free to our families, and gifts to COTA are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
