Our Story

Amiaya Brown is a light to everyone she meets. She is a bright, determined 13-year-old preparing to undergo a bone marrow transplant this summer to cure her sickle cell disease, with her 4-year-old brother serving as her donor.

Sickle cell disease has taken away many traditional childhood experiences, such as consistent in-person school, friendships, and extracurricular activities, but Amiaya has never allowed those challenges to stop her from dreaming big or excelling. She plans to attend college by 16, continue on to medical school, and become a Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgeon. Being cured of sickle cell disease is the first major step toward making those dreams a reality.

Thank you for taking the time to read her story and for standing with Amiaya and our family throughout this journey. đź’ś

The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) helps children and young adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. COTA is the nation’s only fundraising organization solely dedicated to raising life-saving dollars in honor of transplant-needy children and young adults. 100% of each contribution made to COTA in honor of our patients helps meet transplant-related expenses. COTA’s services are free to our families, and gifts to COTA are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
