Journey to Transplant
Our road to transplant was a strenuous journey, but thanks to the generosity of you all we made it. To be cleared for her bone marrow transplant, Alyssa-Marie had to undergo multiple screenings and various testing. She had a dental exam to ensure her teeth and gums were in good condition. A GFR to check on her kidney function. An Echo and EKG to examine her heart. A pulmonary function test for her lungs and a consult for radiation. After all testing was completed, the consensus was that she was ready for transplant.

Our final step before admission was to freeze Alyssa’s eggs. Chemotherapy and radiation can affect fertility. We wanted to do everything in our power to make sure Alyssa could have children one day. The egg freezing process consists of about 10-14 days of hormonal injections. Also, frequent ultrasounds to monitor follicle growth and lab work to check hormone levels. At the end is the egg retrieval surgery.
This process is not covered by insurance and is expensive for the average family. We would not have been able to have Alyssa’s eggs frozen without your help. This was so important to us because infertility would not only affect Alyssa, but future generations to come.
Back on January 4, 2023, Alyssa had her egg retrieval surgery. They were able to extract several viable eggs. Your donations to COTA on behalf of Team Alyssa Marie made this possible for her. We are so grateful for every one of you!
