Transplant Day

 Transplant Day

On February 2nd,2023 Alyssa-Marie received her bone marrow transplant!

Her new stem cells were given intravenously. The amazing team at Children’s and Alyssa-Marie grandmothers surrounded her in celebration while she received her transplant.

The next couple of weeks would be spent in the hospital under close observation. During this time Alyssa fully recovered from the pneumonia and the appendicitis was kept under control with antibiotics. By February 10th the doctors said the new cells were engrafting. She started to eat and drink more on her own and her feeding tube was removed. After so many obstacles before transplant we were overjoyed by all the good news.

At this point, she was recovering ahead of schedule and doing very well. Her blood cell counts were increasing daily. As a result, the number of transfusions needed decreased. Her doctors were very pleased with her progress. The nurses trained me on how to take care of her central line at home.

We were discharged to go home on February 22nd. That day Alyssa was able to ring the bell as a sign that this part of her journey was complete!
