From Shirin: “After 74 days in the hospital, the light at end of the tunnel has finally peaked through today. Ava was officially cleared for discharge and is home fully engrafted post transplant! There have been so many tough days for her to get to this point, and she faced them all head on with bravery and determination. These last four years have been so difficult but the strength this little girl has is indescribable. We could not be more proud of her or more happy to have her home. I’m so obsessed with these kids so even a night away from them is unbearable. I feel like I can breathe again now that we’re all together. We have a long road ahead of us but we are so grateful she made it through all the risks involved with a transplant. Thank you so much to everyone who continuously checked in on us. Also, to everyone who donated to COTA for Team Ava – I’m still speechless. Your generosity has helped immensely in Ava’s transplant journey and I’ll forever hold each of you so close to my heart. “
And Billy added: Long hospital stays are not a new thing for us… but this one was different in many ways but most notably this time being discharged there is true hope and optimism that Ava is moving past this and had a successful true long term cure. Could not be more proud of this child.
