Recovery – Week 1

Wednesday 4/21  Bella is up and moving a little bit. She’s getting in some much neede connection to her sister, her friends, and her puppy. Her left lung is still cloudy in the X-Ray still so no chest tube removal yet. By the end of the day, she had a huge achievement… She walked 8 feet! Also, her chest tubes were removed! She will be much more comfortable with them out.

Thursday, 4/22 Bella is off O2 and making improvements all the time.

Sometimes, scars are signs of damage. Trauma that we have healed from. This scar represents so much, it’s hard to put into words. It’s the sign of a beautiful gift given from tragedy. It’s proof Bella is a warrior, a badge of honor.

Friday, 4/23 Bella is starting to perk up. Her personality is coming back and she’s acting more and more like herself.

Saturday 4/24 She’s eating and laughing today. She had lots of fun opening cards from her classmates. She laughed herself silly.

Sunday, April 25th  we are running on fumes. One week post surgery. Bella had a rough night last night. She was hurting in her chest and back. We have been up since about 3. She said the recliner is way more comfortable than the hospital bed. She said her daddy will have to sleep in the hospital bed so she can have the recliner. She is ok now. Everything is starting to heal so she is super itchy. They are weaning all meds she can’t go home with. They are still very pleased with her progress. She hasn’t eaten much today but has been thirsty. Overall she is good. Healing will be a long process. It’s not a straight line of always getting better. There will still be ups and downs.
