On June 3rd, 2023 I brought Brayden to the hospital in Lafayette! He was having respiratory distress and his kidney was declining. Lafayette could not handle Brayden’s kidney issues and he was air medded to Children’s hospital in New Orleans! Dad and I rushed to NOLA, to be with our sweet boy. Brayden was sent straight to PICU, after arriving to Children’s hospital! He was on 15 liters of high flow oxygen and the doctors were trying to maintain Brayden’s kidney function at the same time. After two days, Brayden got out of PICU and was sent to the renal floor. Everything seemed to be going good, until Brayden’s kidney took a turn for the worse. Brayden’s potassium levels shot up and his neuphrology team had to step in and put Brayden on lasix and kayeaxalate. Finally, after a long 6 days hospital stay, they got Brayden’s levels under control and he has finally been discharged on today (June 8th, 2023). Brayden will stay on kayeaxalate to maintain his potassium levels and hope to maintain his kidney function until his transplant date (July 19, 2023).
