Our Story

Bryan Jones was diagnosed with Non-typable Viral Hepatitis. Doctors also refered to this as acute liver failure. Cases like this only happen to kids up to around 12 years of age and is a very rare condition affecting less that 2000 kids anually worldwide. There is no known cause of this ilness and sudden onset of acute liver failure and that’s why they believe it is from a virus. Bryan recieved his liver transplant on May 8th 2018 only 11 days after being admited to the hostpital. The day the donor liver became availible Bryan slipped into a coma hours before the surgery due to toxins building up in his body that coused his brain to swell. Had this liver not become availible when it did doctors don not  believe  he would have survived another 24 hrs.

Six months after transplant Bryan underwent another major surgery to correct scaring in the main bile duct that stopped the flow of bile and cause a biloma (a fluid sack in the abdomin where blie leaked out of the digestive system). He underwent a roux-en-y in wich doctors used a section of his small intestine to replace the blie duct. This is the most comon complication experienced with liver transplantation from a deceased donor. Since this surgery Bryan has fully recovered and is back on track with being a kid. He is very loving and compationate toward other people. He is humbled by his experience and does what he can to help other kids in need.

Our family could not be more Grateful to COTA, Phoenix Childrens Hospital, our families, the town we live in, and all the donors who have helped us in trying to reach our goal. Thank you all! We could not have done it without the love and support. Bryan is on a life long transplant journey and needs all the help he can get to cover any medical and pharmaceutical needs.
