GREAT NEWS!!!
Daniel moved to North Carolina at the end of May to attend various classes in order to be listed on Duke’s transplant list. He relocated to North Carolina and has been attending classes regularly. Daniel was already listed on the Cleveland Clinic’s transplant list, but was trying to be listed on Duke’s transplant list to double the chances.
Daniel was admitted into the hopstial at Duke a few days ago, but Daniel received the IMPORTANT phone call on Saturday, October 2. Like, THE PHONE CALL!!! He was offered a pair of lungs at the Cleveland Clinic and he accepted the offer! This phone call came 3 years to the date of when he had his first double lung transplant. Crazy! The medical team at Cleveland Clinic notified the transplant team and Daniel was picked up via their plane late Saturday night and flown to the Cleveland Clinic.
Daniel underwent his double lung tranplant surgery on the evening of Sunday, October 3. The surgery was scheduled to last 6-8 hours, but the doctors were going slow and steady due to scar tissue from his previous transplant. Approximately 7 and half hours into the surgery, both of Daniel’s new lungs were out and one new lung had been transplanted. About 9 hours into the surgery, both lungs were transplanted and the doctors advised that everything went well. The doctors were able to close Daniel up about 12 hours after the surgery and things are still going well. The doctors said that he may be awake tonight, but only time will tell.
Please say a prayer for the donor and the family of the donor. All of this would not have been possible if it were not for an amazing human being giving the greatest and most selfless gift possible. THANK YOU!
All of this information is great news for Daniel! Daniel is a fighter and will keep fighting, but it is going to be a long road to recovery. If anyone is able to donate to COTA for Team Daniel, please do, as he/his family will be incurring a tremendous amount of medical bills, along with relocation costs to Cleveland, caregivers, etc. Daniel and his family would like to thank everyone that has already donated to COTA and let’s try and raise more money so Daniel/his family have one less worry to worry about.
Updates will be posted as the information comes in.
