Hello Everyone,
I wanted to belatedly thank everyone for your participation in the fundraiser for COTA in honor of Jason at his 1 year post transplant anniversary. It really means a lot to have all of your support. I also wanted to apologize for the delayed update. We have been very busy. I hope in the future to update on a monthly basis.
In June Jason had his 1 year cardiac catheterization, on the day of his procedure everything seemed to go smoothly, his labs and all of the preliminary reports from the doctor were good and we had planned to see our transplant team in 2 months. However, we got a call a couple days after when the final results of his biopsy came back with some “strange” results. His biopsy showed an area of cells that had lost blood flow and had been damaged. All of the vessels bringing blood to the heart and it’s muscles looked normal so the transplant team wasn’t sure why the biopsy resulted that way. So at a year plus out from transplant we are still seeing them on a monthly basis for ECHOs and labs. All of his check ups since then have been normal so we are still unsure what happened at his biopsy.
Jason has also had some issues with his kidney lab levels being high. We have added Nephrology to our list of specialists and are making adjustments to his anti-rejection medication and fluid intake in order to be more gentle on his kidneys while still keeping his heart in good condition. It is definitely a dance trying to keep all of his organs healthy.
Meanwhile Jason is just a normal little almost 2 year old. He wants to go “side” or outside all of the time regardless of the heat advisories. Jason has started dancing to any music, and has some pretty good moves. He has discovered chalk and likes to draw on the sidewalk and have mommy and daddy draw pictures. He says a lot more words like circle, apple, square, etc. He is eating more and that is a good sign that he is growing and developing like he should. We are hoping if he continues to eat better by mouth we can reduce the amount of nourishment he gets from his g-tube.
Mommy and Daddy are enjoying every minute with him and are so happy to see him learn and grow. With what we have been through it is even more important for us to soak up all of the moments both positive and negative. We thank you all for your continued support, thoughts, and prayers for our little man.
