Our Story

Meet Kaden Conreux, Kaden’s journey began in the Fall of 2016 when he was 11 years old. Kaden kept saying he wasn’t feeling well almost everyday and after months of going to the doctor and forcing them to do more testing, Kaden was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis or PSC. Primary sclerosing (skluh-ROHS-ing) cholangitis (koh-lan-JIE-tis) is an autoimmune disease of the bile ducts. Bile ducts carry the digestive liquid bile from your liver to your small intestine. In primary sclerosing cholangitis, inflammation causes scars within the bile ducts. These scars make the ducts hard and narrow and gradually cause serious liver damage. As the disease progresses, liver cells die and are replaced by scar tissue. This is called cirrhosis and is associated with liver failure. Kaden was also diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Crohn’s Disease, and Ulcerative Colitis which are all associated with PSC. In the beginning, we did not understand the life-long battle that Kaden would be going through for the rest of his life. Kaden suffers everyday with malnutrition, severe pain, fatigue, fevers, chills, swelling due to enlarged liver and enlarged spleen and jaundice. Now, almost 14 years old, he is still fighting this battle every day and has a long road ahead of him. Kaden was officially put on the LIver Transplant list on June 26, 2019. Kaden has a strong support team made up of his mom Tammy, his brother Chris, his memaw Carol, his paw paw Clancy, his aunt Tiffany, his cousin Taya, his dad Greg and dozens more of aunts/uncles/cousins, and friends he has met along the way.

We thank you for your support, both spiritually and financially through donations to COTA. Please keep Kaden, his family and his doctors in your daily prayers.

The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) helps children and young adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. COTA is the nation’s only fundraising organization solely dedicated to raising life-saving dollars in honor of transplant-needy children and young adults. 100% of each contribution made to COTA in honor of our patients helps meet transplant-related expenses. COTA’s services are free to our families, and gifts to COTA are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
