Our Story

My 23-year-old son has spent the last 13 years battling Chronic Granulomatous Disease, a rare immune deficiency that has caused serious health complications and forced him to withdraw from school and limit his work. Despite these challenges, he has shown incredible courage and determination—earning his Eagle Scout rank, participating in marching bands at both Lakeside High School and Georgia Southern University, and working at Smoothie King as much as his health allows. He is currently working toward his business degree online, but his illnesses have made this journey difficult.

As a single mother and a proud US Air Force veteran, I have done everything I can to support my son through his long medical journey. This November, he will undergo a bone marrow transplant at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. The procedure requires us to relocate for at least 114 days, and the financial strain is significant. Donations to COTA for Team Kaliq help with transplant-related expenses for a lifetime, such as renting a furnished place to stay near the transplant center, non-covered medical expenses, travel for treatment, and other costs incurred due to post transplant follow up appointments.

We are reaching out with humble hearts to ask for your support to COTA for Team Kaliq as my son prepares for one of the biggest challenges of his life. Every contribution, every share, and every message of encouragement makes a difference. More than anything, it reminds us that we are not walking this journey alone. Thank you for standing with our family during this difficult time. Your kindness, generosity, and love mean more than words can express.

Thank you

The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) helps children who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. COTA also works with individuals of any age with a single-gene disorder such as Polycystic Kidney Disease, Cystic Fibrosis or Sickle Cell Disease. COTA is the nation’s only fundraising organization solely dedicated to raising life-saving dollars in honor of transplant-needy families. 100% of each contribution made to COTA in honor of our patients helps meet transplant-related expenses.
