March 3, 2025 – He’s got a MATCH!! We serve a God of miracles. Only five days on the transplant list! Ken received a call yesterday afternoon that he was being offered an uncompromised liver. That means the liver does not had Hepatitis, which is a huge deal! After many, many hours and multiple calls with the transplant team, Ken will be admitted at Duke at 8:00 tonight and will have the transplant at 5 am tomorrow. The surgery will take 8-12 hours. We pray for the family of the donor. We pray for peace over Ken (and Meg and the boys). We pray for the doctors and nurses. We ask God’s blessings over the whole situation. We will keep this page posted with updates throughout the process as much as possible. We appreciate any and all prayers! We are so thankful for our friends and family that are helping in so many different ways.
March 4, 2025 – Ready to go into surgery! They took Ken back at 6:15 this morning, and expect the transplant to take between 8-12 hours.
March 4, 2025 at 4:47 p.m. – To God be the Glory! The transplant surgery was a success! The surgeon said that only Ken could have been the recipient of this liver because of its size. The two factors in a liver match are blood type and size. So, it’s the perfect liver for Ken! He is currently unconscious and on a breathing machine in ICU, but they said that is normal. He has been surrounded in prayers, and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I’ve loved receiving all the messages via FB, text, etc and I will relay all the prayers and well wishes when he is able. I don’t know if he can hear me right now. Keep those prayers coming, please. He has a long recovery ahead of him!
March 5, 2025 – He did really good overnght! He’s taken some breaths on his own, squeezed my hand on command and opened his eyes for a brief moment when i called his name! They were able to reduce his blood pressure medicine, insulin, and pain medicine.
March 5, 2025 at 6:02 p.m. – Y’all. Let me tell you about my God!
Ken is off the ventilator, breathing on his own and even talking! He said he feels like a million bucks! He’s in shock and can’t believe how much better he already feels! He’s praising God for His perfect timing!
March 6, 2025 – Morning update: Well, the good pain meds wore off overnight, so he had some discomfort, and pretty sore this morning, but overall he’s in good spirits! Liver levels, kidney levels, blood pressure look great. Blood sugar is a little elevated, so he’s temporarily on insulin. The transplant team let us know this morning that the donor liver actually had a small infection, so they are treating Ken with antibiotics. He’s still smiling and says he feels better bc he’s not nauseous and dizzy (which is how he’s felt for the past 2 1/2 years). Praise God!
March 7, 2025 – Peace out ICU! Hes been moved to a step down unit on the transplant floor. It was a bit of a rough morning due to being very, very sore. Standing is prooving to be a challenge. But overall, his numbers are trending in a positive direction and he’s showing no signs of rejection.
