Our friend, Ken Moss, is battling end stage liver disease due to a genetic condition. This page is dedicated to sharing his journey and supporting the COTA for Team Ken campaign.

Ken was born with a single-cell genetic condition called Alpha-1 Anatrypsin Deficiency, which overtime attacks and ultimately causes liver failure. He received this diagnosis in October of 2023, after two years of being sick and trying to find the answer for his illness.

Even though Ken has health insurance coverage through his employer, medical bills are growing and expected to increase in the future. The Moss family will be facing the costs of doctor visits, travel expenses to and from UNC-Chapel Hill (think gas, parking and meals), a MAJOR surgery, hospital stays, weekly post-transplant follow ups, as well as crucial anti-rejection medication, which Ken will be required to take for the rest of his life. Currently, Ken is making the trip to UNC for weekly IV diuretics and albumin injections.

Ken and his wife, Meg, are the parents to four teenage boys – James, Nathanael, Cooper and Tucker. We all want Ken to see the bright future that he has worked so hard for his boys to have. Ken is devoted to his family. He spent a total of ten years coaching the boys (different boys and different times) baseball at Northview Optimist and in travel ball. His focus was on all the boys’ success – mentally and physically. Ken has been a leader and positive role model in the Lee County baseball community.

As all of Ken’s illness came to be, Meg was reminded of a friend who utilizes the fundraising services of COTA. The success of her COTA fundraising campaign made Ken and his family choose to fundraise for COTA, as well. These funds will help with transplant-related expenses.
