Skyscraper (by Demi Lovato)

We are extremely excited to announce that Lindsey has made it 6 months post-transplant without any major issues or complications! This marks another milestone because six months marks when you are really out of the dark with highest rejection period. The further away you are from transplant, however, the more secure you can feel, though there is alway a risk of rejection.

We have also gotten a much more consistent handle on medications and dosages recently. Besides her lifelong medications, Lindsey now is only on two other medications: one to lower her potassium level, and one to increase her magnesium while her tacro dosage is still high. Luckily, dosages and labs have been consistent, so her most recent blood draws were two months apart (much better than multiple times a day in patient or 4 times a week outpatient). As long as everything remains good, they will continue to spread out over time. Lindsey’s next virtual visit will be in early August, and that will likely be the last one before her muscle wall closure surgery which we are trying to schedule for Lindsey’s 3 week break in December.

In non-medical news, Lindsey and I visited her campus a month ago. There was huge flooding and a tornado warning over the 3 days we were there, so we’ve both signed up for the text weather alerts. On a good note, it was beautiful and Lindsey passed her test to skip a required class and still gain 6 credits in the process. Lindsey is also packed to leave in 5 weeks except for everything she is still using now. Mike and I think she has too much stuff, but she insists there will be room.

Lindsey has been working a lot at home, and she is excited to go up north with one of the families she babysits for soon. Mike and I are also planning to go up north (to a different location) over Labor Day. That is also Rosh Hashana, so Lindsey is debating over whether to stay on campus or come with us. Mike and I both also have surgeries scheduled for the fall, but we can’t say we aren’t excited for Lindsey to go to school.

When it comes to food, Lindsey has found a love of Costco chicken taquitos that she may or may not try to eat multiple times per day. She has also found an amazing recipe for chocolate filled croissants, and even though they take two days to make, she may be addicted. They’re delicious, but she makes a huge mess with the flour needed to roll them out.

Thank you, all for your endless support throughout this journey. We are truly grateful to be surrounded by such great friends and family.
