We wanted to share an important update on Max following his most recent blood work and appointments.
His medical team has shared that his kidney function is changing more quickly than originally expected. While we were initially told a transplant might be needed in 12–16 months, it now appears Max may need a kidney transplant much sooner—potentially as early as this summer.
Because of this change, we need to increase efforts to raise awareness about Max’s need for a living kidney donor. Living donation offers the best outcomes, and time is critical.
If you or someone you know may be interested in learning more about becoming a living donor specifically for Max, please visit his living donor microsite nkr.org/WGG943 It provides detailed information about living kidney donation and explains the process step by step, including how to get started through the National Kidney Registry.
We are also continuing to raise funds for COTA for Team Max, cota.org/COTAforTeamMax which helps assist with transplant-related expenses. We are so grateful for the support and donations COTA for Team Max has received so far—every gift has made a meaningful difference. While the traffic and contributions aren’t quite what we had initially hoped, we know that sharing Max’s story with more people can help extend that impact even further. Sharing his story, donor microsite, and COTA fundraising site—especially at this time—makes a tremendous difference.
Social media posts are a wonderful start, and we are so thankful for every post and share. At the same time, connecting directly with friends, coworkers, and local networks can make an even bigger impact. Every person who sees Max’s story could be the one to help. Max also has cards with QR codes linking directly to both sites; if you’d be willing to take some and pass them along, it would mean so much to us.
This is not an easy update to share, but we are deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support of COTA for Team Max that have carried us this far. Please consider sharing Max’s information with your networks—it truly helps more than you know.
Thank you for standing with Max and our family during this time.
With gratitude,
Matt and Tracey
