We wanted to give everyone an update on Max’s health. A few weeks ago Max approached us worried that he was getting a UTI. As you can guess, UTIs are detrimental for people with chronic kidney disease. Since we were going to see his nephrologist anyway, they took a sample and it tested positive for e-Coli. He also had his regular bloodwork done and there was a significant drop in his GFR. Though the immediate concern was that this will significantly “move up” when a transplant will be planned, his nephrologist and urologist are now working together now to make sure his GFR is attributed to the correct thing. They ruled out kidney stones with an x-ray and are clearing out his e-Coli with antibiotics. Hopefully, we’ll have the news that tells us the numbers were a temporary “blip” and there will be a lesser chance that the transplant would be needed sooner than we were expecting.
