Our Story

Reynaldo Jr. Morales is a one-year-old baby who brings joy and hope to our family as he is always happy and smiling. His three older siblings are fighting everyday with us, on Rey’s journey to a liver transplant so that his smile continues to shine in our home.

Rey was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia when he was only a few days old. Sadly, after spending his first Christmas in the hospital, further tests brought a new diagnosis; Alagille Syndrome, a rare liver disease. It is an autosomal disorder associated with the liver, heart, eyes, and kidneys. In Reynaldo’s case, the liver has been damaged due to the abnormalities in the bile ducts. He also suffers from Stage 3 Kidney Reflux and Xanthomas (cholesterol deposits) that have emerged throughout his face and body.

Currently, Rey has a Nasogastric Intubation that provides his nutrition in a liquid formula on a daily basis, 24-hours a day, and a Broviac Catheter which is the source of injection of medications and fluids. He also attends speech and physical therapy twice a week. At this early age, he has been hospitalized several times at the Miami Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, approximately 100 miles from our home, where he is under the care of Dr. Eric Hernandez and Dr. Paredes. He also is seen at the Jackson Memorial Hospital by Dr. Garcia. This team of doctors provide continuous medical services to Rey.

It is a parent’s greatest sorrow to see their children suffer, but we will continue to do all that we can to assure that Reynaldo undergoes this much needed liver transplant. We ask for your prayers as we put our trust in God. As you can imagine, the costs associated with this journey are grand, so we have partnered with the Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA), a national charity dedicated to raising life-saving dollars in honor of transplant-needy children like Rey. All donations will go directly to COTA in honor of Team Reynaldo M to assist with transplant related-expenses. Any donations given are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Thank you for your prayers, support, and generosity!
