At approximately 9:45pm on Sunday night Ryan received the call for new lungs. Ryan’s family spent the night in the ICU prepping for the day ahead.
Ryan was taken down to the OR around 7:30am this morning. At approximately 9:30am the surgeon came out and informed us that the new lungs did not pass final inspection and they were not comfortable going through with the transplant.
Ryan is in good spirits and we are so thankful the transplant team decided not to use lungs that weren’t perfect for him. Ryan will be staying inpatient for a few days to recover from the anesthesia and give him a bump in his lung function.
Please keep Ryan’s family and the donor’s family whose lungs were so generous and selflessly offered in your thoughts.
In the transplant world, this is what we call a DRY RUN.
