Winston is making good progress in terms of the new liver functions and getting past the withdrawal symptoms related to the surgery pain meds. His bilirubin score is now down to 1.2, inside the normal range of a properly functioning liver…. an absolute miracle within 2 weeks after the transplant! He also got to ride in his wagon outside of his room for the first time since surgery this morning before the port procedure (see the forthcoming posted pic). Today happened to be a tough day though (the 1 step back day) because the doctors had to replace the main port on his chest this afternoon in a procedure requiring full anesthesia. The original port done at surgery was not properly functioning this past weekend to withdraw blood tests, but usable for meds insertion. So today, after the procedure Winston was quite cranky! Alyssa and Jordan are hopeful that the post surgical drain will get removed within the next few days, the new main port will properly function and Winston can be moved from ICU to a regular room for more recovery progress in the near future.
Megan continues to improve every day as well at a rapid pace. She has no known post surgical complications or symptoms. Her followup visit is tomorrow and she is hopeful that she will be cleared to travel home this weekend!
God is good!
