We went in for labs…..
On Friday July 1, 2022 we went in for a regular lab appointment. We were asked to go to the ER. She was then admitted and then had surgery… The good news? She was able to see the 4th of July Fireworks from her hospital window…
Heres what happened:
It is not abnormal for a hernia to develop on children receiving Peritoneal Dialysis. The concern was, will this hernia cause problems for her (fingers crossed) soon to come transplant? After assessing things, the team of doctos decided it would be best to repair/remove the hernia. Here’s where it gets tricky… they have decided to hault treatment (which she does 9hrs every day) to give her body time to heal after surgery; the doctors were afraid that if she resumed treatment immediately after, we would be back to square one.
With haulting treatment, that means, she is being closely monitored around the clock to ensure her levels dont sky rocket… She has been here 5 days and counting.
Shes a trooper.
Her sleep schedule is upside down, but she keeps a smile on her face and spends her time playing roblox! (SMILE).

Zaleya, I am so very sorry you’re going through this! One thing after another and you keep on fighting! You are a strong girl and I know you will keep on fighting! I am writing to quickly tell you why I know what you’re going through: My son was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 4. He has had a really tough time just like you! He, too has dialysis every other day for 6 hrs. He’s been on dialysis for 4 yrs. now and is awaiting his double transplant. He hopes to get a kidney and pancreas so he can be healthy!! I know you and my son will get through this because you have both proved you are fighters!! Good luck to you!
