Tené Needs a Donor

Tené Dolphin is a remarkable woman whose journey has touched many lives, from classrooms to the halls of government. A dedicated mother, esteemed colleague, beacon of service and advocacy, and leader who has selflessly served our nation and communities is embarking on a critical journey that demands both her resilience and our collective action.

Her career, marked by dedication and excellence, has been a testament to her belief in creating opportunities for all—a belief that has now brought us together to create an opportunity for her: the chance for a new lease on life.

The need is urgent and profound. After a frightening diagnosis of Genetic Hepatic Adenomas, the reality of liver lesions, and a battery of tests, doctors have concluded that a liver transplant is imperative for Tené. This medical recommendation comes not just as a prescription, but as a call to action for us, her support network, to uphold her in thought, word and deed during this time.

Tené’s spirit remains strong. Her determination to overcome this hurdle and lead a vibrant life is as fierce as ever. But she needs our support—financial, emotional, and spiritual. We are also reaching out for potential liver donors who meet the general qualifications: ages 18-55, a BMI under 30, and, ideally, a compatible blood type. With Tené’s AB-positive, she can accept a liver from any blood type, making your consideration to become a donor even more crucial.

Tene is eligible for a donor liver from a live or deceased source. She has explained that getting a compatible organ from a deceased source is a long shot, so there are opportunities for live donors to be tested. No one, including Tene, will know you are being tested unless you want to share. Everything is anonymous until a donor is confirmed.

The evaluation period takes about 2 months, and everything is covered under the recipient’s insurance. Donors stay in the hospital for 4-7 days after surgery, and the recovery period at home is 3-6 weeks. The liver grows back to 90% of full size in about 8 weeks.
