Last night we thought bath time would be a breeze because he was sedated but he turned into baby hulk. They had to use a partial paralytic to finish. It worked out because they were able to readjust his intubation tube and tape on his face with evening care. He is having increased secretions, so the team has started to do deep suctioning. He woke up and gave the nurse the evil eye for waking him up, he is still Tj through all of this, and one thing Tj can do is cut those eyes. He had a pretty good night. After giving some PRN meds right after bath. His nighttime ocean music was put on try and relax him. He slept well throughout the night. We were still trying to keep his blood pressure down. As well as continuing to get the fluid off him.
This morning sugar levels were normal. The doctors were able to take Tj off his sedation medications but will give a calming medication to help with extubation. Tj’s kidney levels were even more elevated today, so there has been and order for a consultation with a nephrology (kidney DR) to make sure his kidneys are working properly. Blood pressure is still elevated but lower than yesterday, so we are taking steps in the right direction. A CAT scan was ordered due to blood being in his surgical drain because doctors want to be sure that he is not bleeding internally due to him being on steroids prior to surgery for his reactive airway. The staff is working diligently to help Tj recovery process be smooth as it can be. We are truly thankful for the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
This evening Tj was able to be extubated!!YAY!!!. It was really hard on him at first and the doctors thought they would have to re-intubate him, but when he was told they would have to put the tube back in, he cut his eyes first and started taking deep breaths. After that he made a silly face and was all smiles. He was able to sit up and watch Paw Patrol on the phone, if you know Tj you know that is one of his favorite pastimes. The doctors have made some changes giving him milder antibiotics to safeguard his kidneys. The nephrologist came and ran more test on Tj’s kidneys.
Tj’s blood pressure is still elevated but lower that this morning. His drain was rechecked, and everything looks good. No internal bleeding but they will keep a close eye on his blood levels and drain site. Today was an emotional roller coaster but an overall amazing day. Tj continues to fight to be healthy and whole.
