G-Tube todays Post Op focus

This morning Tj needed oxygen throughout the night. He is currently breathing on his own without oxygen like a champ. The doctors decreased the concentration of his antibiotics because his kidney levels are still too high. Thankfully, Cincinnati Children’s hospital is one of the only hospitals that can tailor antibiotics directly to their patients’ exact needs. Tj’s blood pressure and blood sugar are finally within normal range.

TJ had to get a G-tube during his surgery. What is a G-Tube? I’m glad you asked, it is a tube that is surgically inserted through the abdomen and stomach to provide nutrition. He has been getting all his nutrition through IV. Today he was able to get his nutrition (fed) through his G-tube. They are going to start with a small amount at a low rate to see how his stomach tolerates having food. The drain that the doctors were monitoring looks great today. Tj will hopefully be getting out of bed and working with Physical and Occupational Therapy. We are excited about Tj moving in the right direction.
