Day 5-5.33. It has been a hard nearly 48hrs for our Abs. Aside from the immense pain she is going through she started vomiting yesterday. Though vomiting is nothing uncommon with her surgery it is coming in copious amounts. Part of her surgery is getting her intestines reconfigured in to what they call a “y” shape. With that comes a bunch of cuts and sutures. Her feeding tube is bypassing her stomach so it is unclear why she has now thrown up eight times within the last 24hrs. Abbey’s pain continues to be a battle between mom and the pain doctors. From the nurses point of view we are both trying to communicate different things and both have very valid points. I may be a little bias but my points are more important so im honestly only partially listening to the “doctor talk” while they are speaking to me. One of my biggest triggers throughout all of our hospital stays have been when doctors speak to me in doctor talk. It comes across in my mind that they don’t really look at Abbey as Abbey but more like a science experiment and just go off of their protocols. Just writing those last few sentences has me replying yesterday morning and my face is getting red with anger. We are still trying to push getting out of bed but with how much pin she is in is extremely hard to do. Over night was extremely busy with the amount of times she has thrown up. 1: She had to get her central line cleaned up with new bandages to prevent an infection. 2: She has had 4 bed baths and two hair washes. 3: She had her stomach drain bandages replaced and 4: She has two X-rays. Monday rounds will be at 8am and we will discuss the past 24hrs and hopefully come up with a better plan to help the little booger bear.
