Day 4?

Day 4? 5? 27? Who really knows any more. Dad, Mom , and Auntie hit a new level of exhaustion today.  We are tired from lack or sleep, stress, anxiety, and just the plain mental game of the entire process. Abbey had a rough night with bouts of pain coming on really hard and fast that followed her into the day. She also had the nursing and care team chasing after in insulin well into the morning. Highs reaching to the 190s and rapid dips into the 70s. We were finally able to manage her glucose and leveled out into her goal range is 80-120. However the pain is again showing to be a bit more difficult. She wants to be up and out of bed and wakes up ready to go. Several times today she would be in a dead sleep them pop straight up and turn to get on all fours. At one point panting and saying she was a puppy. Hahah she’s still silly and feisty that’s for certain.  However after she then cry’s in pain and says “tummy hurt” over and over eventually putting herself back to sleep. OT and PT although successful were very taxing on her body. She walked to our door and then had enough. We have a video we will post but it’s not easy to watch. She is going through so much and she is so little. We can see all the pain in her cry’s, shakes, and eyes. We as adults know it’s what’s best for her and the healing process but im not sure she understands why we are pushing her so hard when she is clearly communicating that she does not want to do it.

On a different not truly Abbey related note. Sam is heading home tonight to be with the big girls as they start school next week. It’s bitter sweet in so many ways. Sam and I have navigated the hospital life many times

before but never for this long or at this distance. We ask from all of our amazing friends and family to wish us strength as we head into the next hard, straining, stressful weeks ahead.
