Bryson’s Journey- From Dad’s Perspective Part 3

Finding Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, they had a program that is specific to cardiomyopathy and would be able to see Bryson on CHRISTMAS eve 2019 so we agreed and headed over and got a hotel room. Got up, went to the appointment and they confirmed our nightmare. Yes, Bryson has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. So, we do tests and checkups and everything we could to figure out everything we could about the disease over the next few months. We would drive over and back to Miami from our home in Lee County in the same day with a 1-year-old or depending on the appointment time we would have to spend the night. So, the disease was progressing and getting worse, and they needed to do a heart catheterization. However, we had to stay in the hospital for a few different things related to his heart and every time it was miserable. The staff was rude or seemed non educated. Like I could have been a better nurse than them. So, me and my wife had a choice to either stay with this hospital and deal with horrible staff but amazing doctors or find a new center. Since I was the father/ husband I had to think about what BEST for my family was if we had to do it long term. So, I went to the internet and found that UF Health Shand’s Children’s hospital in Gainesville was ranked 12th in the NATION for pediatric cardiology (ranked 7th now) so we decided we would give it a try and make an appointment with them.
