One month listed

One month later! We do not have a lot of updates except everyday we wonder if the phone will ring.

A few days after Cohen was listed his team asked for and received exception points which moved him up on the transplant list. We still don’t know what to expect which makes this process so surreal.

In the meantime we are moving forward with our fourth living donor getting evaluated in a few weeks. This process always takes time as they have to coordinate flying to Stanford for multiple days of extensive tests. We are thankful for another family member being willing, while also praying a door opens up for Cohen soon.

We have had SO much encouragement from Cohen’s school, his classmates/teachers, his friends, and having a few play dates. We are trying to soak in slower days at home since we still need to avoid getting him sick as much as possible and he isn’t attending school in person. Let’s just say Cohen likes his actual teacher much more than mom-teacher telling him what to do 🥲

In the waiting Cohen had labs rechecked this week. He has a high ammonia level that we are watching and adding a med back in for. One thing his liver hasn’t historically done well is filter out the toxins as it should, which can be dangerous if they get too high. He had a few other labs off which are leading his Dr to do urine tests next week to look at some things related to his kidneys. He will get labs done next week again as well. We’re also trying to keep up his weight as he hasn’t been gaining and will see a dietician next week.

We just ask you continue to pray:
-Cohen’s spirits and courage stay high (Avery’s too!)
-God will open the door for the right liver at the right time
-Cohen stays stable without complications in the waiting

Thank you everyone for reading.. praying .. giving.. we are beyond grateful!

-Jess

  1. Thank you for writing an update! Still praying for your whole family often. My mama heart goes out to your mama heart. It’s so hard to wait and wonder — trust God and do your best in the meantime. That’s all we can do, right? One day, one breath at a time. Savor the moments. Keep surrendering … over and over. Love you!

  2. I am praying for all of you, especially Cohen. Having gone through an adult transplant (and the wait and hoops to jump through as we waited for Roy’s kidney last year), I can pray for Cohen, his parents, and grandparents with empathy. Praying for God’s timing in all of this.

  3. Praying for Cohen and your entire family as you continue to prepare him for this journey. Praying also to open the hearts of potential donors to consider this lifesaving act of love.
