Transplant Day – the liver is IN!!!

We just got our second update call from the surgical team. Dylan’s liver is in and the blood is flowing through it well! This is amazing news and it came sooner than we expected, while we were sitting in the cafeteria eating dinner. As expected, they removed her spleen and gallbladder.

The unfortunate news is that they had to remove her entire pancreas. We knew this was a possibility, and it means that she will be diabetic. This will be an additional challenge, but we can and will adapt.

They still need to remove part of her stomach, and do some more vessel reconstruction. They are in the home stretch. Her room in the ICU is almost ready, and we will move her stuff into it soon. There is still a long night ahead. Dylan will be unconscious and intubated for a while, and we are as prepared as we can be to see her in such a vulnerable state.

We have a very long night still ahead of us, but we are so encouraged by this latest news. We will update when she is out of surgery. Thank you so much for all the love we are feeling from near and far away. Your support means the world to Dylan and her family.
