Today marks the most important day in Ella’s transplant journey — transplant day, also called Day 0 in the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) world. 💛🎗️

Over the past week, Ella has gone through intense chemotherapy to wipe out her immune system and unhealthy cells to make home for the donor’s healthy cells. Today, she receives her donor cells — her new start, her second birthday. 🎂

These healthy cells will make their way into her bloodstream through her central line (just like a blood transfusion). Then, over the next few weeks, they’ll travel to her bone marrow and begin the amazing process of growing and making new, healthy blood cells.

The days ahead are critical as her body begins to accept the new cells and rebuild her immune system.
