Emma Update April 2024

April has just begun, but it has been an eventful month already. Emma was officially placed back on the list in Dallas and officially listed for the first time in Colorado. Emma had to be put on the inactive list back in March following the administration of two live vaccines.

The first weekend in April was a weird one. Emma and her parents traveled to Dallas for her follow up appointment, where it was discovered her liver numbers were a bit higher than normal. The family was told to watch her closely as it could indicate the start of an infection. Emma and her parents continued on their trip to visit Nana and watch the solar eclipse. Unfortunately, Emma started vomiting and became very irritable Saturday night into early Sunday morning. Emma landed in the ER at Limestone Medical Center on Sunday. After labs and conferencing with Dallas the decision was made to transfer her to Dallas. Emma and mommy got their first helicopter ride to Dallas Children’s Medical Center. Emma was held for 24 hours to run some tests, be administered vitamin K, and receive some fluids. Thankfully, her liver numbers started to track down and all test came back negative. Emmas was discharged just before the solar eclipse. She and her family were able to view the solar eclipse in the courtyard at the hospital before loading up to head back home.

The following week brought great news. Colorado called to inform Emma’s family they had a non-directed donor that matched with Emma! She will be having her surgery in June!
