Our Story
Hi, it’s Emma! I was transplanted with two lungs and a liver on October 1st, 2011 due to decline in organ function due to Cystic Fibrosis. COTA was an enormous help when my family and I were raising funds during my recovery period at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford after the transplant. COTA continues to help me all of these years after my surgery, from helping with hotel stays associated with transplant procedures to gas and many more costs that add up very quickly. Follow-up care due to my transplant is constant, and even though one day I hope to have a career to pay for some of these costs myself, there is always a chance that I may become sick and not be able to work for a significant amount of time. COTA is a safety net and takes away a huge amount of finance-induced stress that having a chronic illness brings along with it. Thank you to anyone who decides to donate to COTA in my honor, it is always appreciated and makes life as a transplant patient significantly easier!
The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) helps children and young adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. COTA is the nation’s only fundraising organization solely dedicated to raising life-saving dollars in honor of transplant-needy children and young adults. 100% of each contribution made to COTA in honor of our patients helps meet transplant-related expenses. COTA’s services are free to our families, and gifts to COTA are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
