Well, the long awaited transplant is upon us. Ethan is currently in the operating room.
I received a call yesterday at 1104 from our transplant coordinator. She asks me if I’m with Ethan and I say that I am not. I was at Walmart doing some shopping before the weather hits in a couple of day and Ethan was at the apartment doing school. She said I needed to go get him because he had an offer. I was stunned. So I texted Ethan and told him he needed to eat something now. He texted me back and asked why. I was still on the phone with the doctor so I ignored the text until I had gotten all of the instructions.
After I got off the phone with the doctor, I called Ethan back and told him he needed to eat. He asked why and I said he had an offer. He was silent for a moment and then he said, “Really?”
Yes! I dropped the shopping cart off at the customer service counter and left the store rather rapidly. Once I was back at the apartment I somewhat frantically packed a couple of bags and got Ethan ready to go.
Once we were at the hospital, it was a hurry up and wait game. We thought transplant would happen around 8pm. Then the surgeon came in and said it would be around 230am. Then a call came in and said it would be 530am. We were ok with that because it meant that Ethan would get some rest and the surgeon would get some rest as well. I believe that this is important as he will be cutting on my son. I want him well rested!
So, here I sit in the OR waiting room at Children’s Hospital of Colorado in Aurora. All the updates have been very positive and I trust that God is working His miracles. But even as I sit here I am reminded that another family is mourning the loss of a loved one and I mourn with them. My prayers go out for this family who so selflessly gave to others. May God richly bless you for your sacrifice. I pray for peace and comfort for your family and friends.
More updates as I receive them…
