Home and Hospital

Hello From Heeth’s Mom:

Thank you again for all of our wonderful family and friends who continue to pray and send positive thoughts for Heeth.  I apologize that I am not able to respond to all the nice texts or that my responses are not as “wordy” as my typical Midwestern Way. Life has just been very busy.

Heeth has been home, back in the hospital, home, and had daily clinic visits too sometimes lasting until 7 PM.  It is worth every effort, drive, lack of sleep, lack of eating a meal, to see him happy with his dogs.  Heeth has recognized that home isn’t what he thought it would be, with his medical needs still so intense, but we are hopeful with the right treatment, it will be in the not so distant future.  I am mostly up at 3 or 4 with a flashlight, administering some meds while he sleeps, adjusting feeding tubes, and this then continues throughout the day.

The kids and I insist on finding fun throughout the day no matter what!  We do silly dance parties, play Roblox with cousins and “talk trash,” walk around the island with the cocker spaniels (or hospital laps) for physical movement for our buddy, do puzzles, and watch silly movies!

Keene has stepped up as the best big sister ever: helping me with some of Heeth’s medical needs, reading with Heeth, checking in on him, hugging him, and telling him how much she loves him.  It has been very hard to see her brother so sick, and having him home, she has witnessed a lot more than she had before.  She too has sacrificed a lot, continuning to work remotely instead of going in person to school, to help protect her brother.  She has been brave, just like Heeth, and tells him what a great job he is doing when he does his breathing therapies or physical movements.

Please know that even if I am not able to respond, the texts, calls, and notes really do make our hearts happy!  Heeth continues to try to get better and we will continue navigating the best way possible for this to happen.  In the meantime, thank you for continuing to keep him in your prayers.  His team has said they have “never seen a patient work so hard to get better.”  I am proud to call Heeth and Keene my buddies and sweet children.

That’s It For Now.

HUGE HUGS FROM HEETH!

With Love,

Heeth’s Mom

PS Fun Fact: Since Today’s Groundhog’s Day..Did you know the movie Groundhog Day (which is how 120 plus days in the hospital feels) was actually filmed in Woodstock, IL: where Heeth’s Grandpa Howard lived?!
