5 months

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve posted so I wanted to hop out and give a quick update on Isaac. He has been listed for 5 months now and is still doing amazing. We are so very thankful. He was supposed to have a routine heart cath tomorrow and an ENT procedure, but the team and we agreed it was not needed and that the anesthesia for the procedure would pose more of a risk than the benefits of having the procedure. We are thankful for “one less thing,” and one less trip to the hospital. Next week, Isaac will go back in to the heart clinic for his monthly tune-up!

At the beginning of February I reflected on many significant things that have happened in our family during “heart month.” Of course, Isaac’s birthday is at the beginning of the month, which is often coupled with Chinese New Year! February is also the month that Jane left the hospital for the last time and came home on hospice care. Sadly, this month, we added another significant event to our February Family calendar. Isaac’s grandma suffered a heart attack on Saturday and went to be with Jesus. We miss her deeply and are so grateful for the faithful way she loved and served our family. While we are in Arizona for the funeral, Isaac will go status 7 on the heart transplant list. This means he will not “lose his spot in line,” but we will also not receive any calls for a heart when he is not available to receive one.

As I reflect on “heart month” and the complex hearts of two of our precious kiddos, I want to encourage you to take care of your own heart! Take the time to get regular check-ups, manage the stress in your life, watch what you eat, move your body, and know the warning signs.
