Our Story

Jamie is a loving and devoted wife to her high school sweetheart Alex, a caring mother to Dylan (age 7) and Delilah (age 2), a daughter, a sister, a cousin, an aunt, a faithful servant of God, an animal lover, and a friend to all.  She lives her life passionately, gives selflessly, and lives to serve others.  She loved working for over 10 years as an Anesthesia Physician Assistant at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Labor and Delivery and deeply misses caring for her patients as well as her beloved work family.  Jamie was a state champion gymnast, a proud Rutgers University cheerleader, and fell in love with the beauty of Alaska during 2 summer missionary work trips with the church.

In February of 2016, on what should have been the happiest of occasions- the birth of baby Delilah- Jamie’s health took a serious turn for the worse.  She developed severe cardiomyopathy and respiratory failure and spent three weeks in intensive care.  Jamie’s health continues to decline immensely with her lungs failing her.  Her only hope for survival is a double lung transplant.  She has undergone two years of treatments including two rounds of chemotherapy, plasmapheresis, and monthly IV Immunoglobulin.  Nothing has worked.  Columbia Presbyterian, UPENN, and Robert Wood Johnson Hospitals have all recommended and urged Jamie to go to Phoenix, Arizona to be listed for a double lung transplant where there is a greater opportunity and larger donor pool than on the east coast.

Part of being put on the transplant list is dependent upon knowing the patient has the funds to cover the process.  While some of the transplant itself is covered by insurance, there are many additional aspects of care and recovery costs that won’t be.  The costs during the first year after a transplant are exorbitant.  Aftercare is expensive and crucial.  Jamie will need to stay close to the Phoenix hospital until she recovers.  At this time, Jamie’s family has partnered with the Children’s Organ Transplant Association for help raising funds to assit with transplant-related expenses.  Please pray and consider donating bountifully to COTA in honor of Jamie and Alex, who have helped and supported many people throughout their lives.  This is their true time of need.  Let us bless this beautiful family with compassion and generosity.

The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) helps children and young adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. COTA is the nation’s only fundraising organization solely dedicated to raising life-saving dollars in honor of transplant-needy children and young adults. 100% of each contribution made to COTA in honor of our patients helps meet transplant-related expenses. COTA’s services are free to our families, and gifts to COTA are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
