“Jaxon was fit for a spleen guard yesterday!
One thing you may not know about Congenital Hepatic Fibrosis is that it causes splenomegaly, which is an enlarged spleen. Jaxon’s liver condition causes his spleen to “eat” his white blood cells and his platelets and that causes it to enlarge. This is also one of the reasons his immune system is compromised.
Normally, the spleen sits nice and safe under the ribcage, but in Jaxon’s case his is 5 inches below his ribcage. This leaves it exposed to injury if he ever takes a hit or falls on his belly.
This spleen guard will keep him protected so he can play sports, PE and go to recess like all the other kids without fear of injury!”
