Good News!!

Thomas had a biopsy last week which came back negative for cancer cells. This gives Thomas and the medical team the green light for a bone marrow transplant. He will be admitted on January 23rd with preparations starting on January 24th. The transplant date is set for February 2nd. They have already collected from the donor and the bone marrow stem cells are on their way to Phoenix.

A bone marrow transplant (BMT) is a medical procedure that replaces damaged or destroyed bone marrow with healthy bone marrow stem cells. The stem cells are taken from a donor’s body and infused into the patient’s bloodstream. The stem cells then travel to the bone marrow, where they produce new blood cells and promote the growth of new marrow. If you want to learn more, here is a quick video that describes how a stem cell transplant works.
