“Hi, my name is Junia. Happy six months to my new liver…! Today I had a good ‘hospital’ day. In the morning, Mama told me that I needed to fast again for my ultrasound so I decided to take a nice, long nap after breakfast until we needed to go. Then I got to talk to my ultrasound technician, who was surprised I hadn’t named my liver yet. She suggested “Leftie” since my liver is a left lobe.
When we were done, we saw nephrology. Mama got a blood pressure machine and learned how to use it to take my blood pressure (no need to learn how to take it manually yet!). She says they want my blood pressure taken every day so they can track it and know how to better take care of me.
After that we saw transplant. My doctor apologized about how “exciting” everything had been and explained it was partially because I got my liver when I was so, so small: she wished us a more “boring” new year. Otherwise, she said my ultrasound and labs looked good! Apparently I’ll be getting ultrasounds (with fasts) on a routine basis for now.
Lastly we talked about how there are some transplant children who don’t even know what organs they got. Like teenager children! After hearing that, Mama seemed more serious about naming my liver, so if you have any suggestions better than “J-izzle” (Daddy’s suggestion), let me know! Please. Let me know.”
