Kenzie has done such a remarkable job with her recovery. She has only 2 chest tubes left and has been breathing on ROOM AIR (instead of oxygen)!!!!!! Woo hoo! She has taken walks each day and the last 2 days she did it on room air. She is teaching her new lungs how to breathe so sometimes her oxygen levels drop but she pauses briefly to let them catch up. The music therapist came in yesterday and Kenzie sang with her and by herself as well…and again, on room air!! It’s been really cool to watch her rise through this process.
The doctors were going to discharge Kenzie today, but after an x-ray that showed a little pneumothorax where her right lung hasn’t fully expanded yet they are keeping her for observation for one more night. The plan is for her to get discharged tomorrow. Hoping that will happen!
Thank you everyone for keeping up with Kenzie’s recovery through our updates here. We will continue to post them over the next few months as her recovery continues. You can also follow Kenzie’s journey @sister_cyster on Instagram or Sister Cyster on Facebook.
