Layla was born with a genetic condition called Alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency. At birth, they knew her liver was being damaged and by 9 months old, she was diagnosed with cirrhosis and portal hypertension. Doctors told them that a transplant was inevitable because her disease was progressive.
