It’s been a little bit since we had an update.
While Layla was in Florida for her Make a Wish trip, she was hospitalized. Fortunately things are improving over here. Layla is feeling better and better since the virus that hospitalized her. But she’s had a lot of anxiety and that’s been really scary for her and very sad and hard to watch as her parents. Layla understands big things are coming and that anxiety is always just below the surface.
As far as her transplant goes, the doctors have said that they want Layla to be 6 weeks out from the onset of her symptoms before she is listed, which has us around May 5th. They’ve now asked that Layla get another ECG next week and one more live vaccine which she won’t be able to have after transplant. She has to wait 3 more weeks after that vaccine before they can transplant her. So we get pushed out closer to the middle of May to be listed.
The good news is the transplant committee approved her to be listed and insurance approved all pre-authorizations, so once we finish up some of these loose ends, everything should be good to
go.
Once Layla is listed, we could get a call very soon, but it’s also possible there could be a long wait. That’s why we will also start our official search for a living donor and those interested can start the process of being screened with a phone interview with the hospital.
In the meantime we are working hard to finish gathering up the donations that our wonderful community has given to us for our upcoming auctions for The Children’s Organ Transplant Association in honor of Layla. We will be having an online auction through Facebook as well as an event at The Eastside Tavern. We hope that you can join us, support a great cause and snag some cool things! Details coming soon about auctions – stay tuned! #Laylastransplantjourney
