Today marks one month from when Lily received her new heart.  It hasn’t been all rainbows and sunshine but the shift is beginning.  The house has been filled with laughter the last few days.  Lily’s energy is increasing and her “old”
self is returning.  Verona and Lily laugh
together all day long, it’s beautiful to watch.

Little did we know Lily’s heart was failing until last June.  Signs were subtle and slow moving; even her PCP wasn’t concerned with what we expressed to him.  Leg pain is just growing pains.  Eating little is a picky eater.  We were brushed off and made to feel like hypochondriacs.  Our persistence paid off and we were able to catch her restrictive cardiomyopathy before it was too late.

The journey was tough and unfathomable at times.  There were moments of self-doubt, but there was no tapping out.  We took it day byday and moved a few mountains on the way.  Here we are, one grateful family.
